Reverences (now and in the future)

Wow - Amazon is up 81 points ! You should have bought it 2 weeks ago when it was weaker, Justin. =========== J.H.: I stopped buying individual stocks 10 years ago, though Amazon and Apple always tempting! Astros looking good! Kinda shocked about Girardi, but I never liked how he handled the pitching staff. Great guy though. Have a good weekend. ========== A.N.: Did you get burned buying individual stocks ? Or is it that you can become too obsessive about it ? ========== J.H.: Both more than 15 years ago lol ========== A.N.: I started off at Dalton Kent selling 3-Com [COMS] @ $25 - it went up ! ========== J.H.: At NRHS, the three stocks I picked in economics did so well, I was exempt from taking the final. Sun Microsystems, Oracle and Compaq. Two merged with each other eventually. ========== A.N.: When I was on Wall Street, I purchased 100 shares of Sun Microsystems @ $49 for my uncle Leroy Gower and saw it plunge the same day to $19. I decided to just sell Mutual Funds after that, but I always wanted to say that I once sold shares of Sun Micro. The stock market did not have a good day today; they say it's related to the Manafort indictment, but I think it's just profit-taking. Facebook reports earnings late this week, I think the market takes another leg up this week ! Question: Where did you go to high school prior to NRHS ? If you had to do it all over again, would you go to the same college ? Now playing: David Bowie, "Scary Monsters" ========== J.H.: Monroe Woodbury. If I had to do it all over again, I definitely would not have gone to Bucknell and Albany. Maybe Cornell Hotel/Rest Mgmt or focused on a business major. That being said, the math nerd in me still wishes I expanded on all the math I took. I am always intrigued by math and physics. I am watching Netflix series, Stranger Things 2. Pretty cool series about aliens and/or parallel universes. A part of me thinks we may have populated other planets and jumped to the most habitual ones as the sun's intensity dims. Meaning, maybe we didn't always exist on earth, and that we existed on another planet and were brought here. Just a thought. What do you think? ========== A.N.: I think we evolved, but not only from some ape-like progenitor, but from smaller, less differentiated organisms that were originally hermaphroditic and self-perpetuating. Our consequent search for a way of life that is authentically the "morally higher" one is essentially a quest, an attempt to return to a state of wholeness and self-sufficiency that was originally experienced in the primitive state. I believe Freud and Engels were correct when they said that we originally lived in tribes dominated by a physically superior "father-figure" and this system of "tribalness" can still be seen in modern social communities, whether immanently in the ideologies associated with various religions, countries-nation-states or ethnicities or subliminally, according to the psychologically schematic organization of the personality as a socially-conditioned organism. But I believe in God, all the same. ========== J.H.: I'm not denying evolution, but I still think we're missing a big piece of the puzzle. Your theory is pretty solid btw, thanks for sharing! I have been watching Netflix season 2, Stranger Things. That's what got me thinking about this topic that I have been on and off with for quite some time. From time to time I will watch history channel, Ancient Aliens and stuff like that..... ========== A.N.: What's "Stranger Things" about ? Is it only on Netflix ? ========== J.H.: Stranger things is a science fictions series about a group of kids in a town where there's some kind of alternate dimension going on and a kid who has powers due to lab experiments. Kind of has a Steven King type feel to it. Only on Netflix. Nothing amazing, but amusing to say the least. ========== A.N.: And I take it that this series has convinced you of the possible existence of alternate universes ? ========== J.H.: Not really. The whole different dimensions thing is hard for me to grasp. Really interesting though. Makes me wish i kept studying math and physics. ========== A.N.: Do you believe in the afterlife ? ========== J.H.: I want to, but question it. So many possibilities. U? ========== A.N.: Yes, I definitely believe in an afterlife - there's not a shred of doubt in my mind. What it is, exactly, that I can't say.....
